Volunteering: engaging with the local community

Encouraging positive change with technology is so much more than a 9-5 job and we’re pledging our commitment to ‘do our bit’.

We’d love for each and every Third Sector organisation to benefit from digital. In reality, budget and resource often hinder small to medium charities. We’ve implemented a volunteering programme to encourage the Giant team to engage with local community organisations that would benefit from both digital and practical support.

From individual placements to large-scale team challenges - we’ve allocated a pot of volunteering time each month. The cogs are whirring  - get ready for skydives, bake offs and 10k runs!

Our Solutions Architect, Alex McGibbon, has kickstarted the programme by supporting a charity close to home: Chorley Hedgehog Rescue.

“Across the charity’s promotional material, the Rescue had been using three logos, some of which no longer reflected the organisation and its needs. Its visual identity had become confused. Upon meeting the team that runs the rescue centre, their passion and dedication was humbling. Donations and volunteers are absolutely vital to keep the centre functioning.”  Alex, Solutions Architect, Giant Digital.

Alex has been working with Chorley Hedgehog Rescue to update the charity’s brand. Established in 2015, the Rescue, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (C.I.C.), cares for more than 100 hedgehogs at a time.

The Rescue is entirely run by a small team of dedicated volunteers and relies on public donations towards the £60k annual running costs. As the Rescue has evolved organically, its original branding morphed and the usage of it became sporadic with three different logos in use across promotional material. Alex has initially dedicated his volunteering time to consolidate and update the Rescue’s branding, design a new look for its website and build a database to track the medical needs of the hedgehogs.
