Giant Digital’s Co-Founder and Technical Director joins the Wish Centre as a Trustee

We are excited to announce that our Co-Founder and Technical Director, Jon Atkinson, has joined the Wish Centre as a Trustee. Jon has joined a board of seven trustees from a variety of backgrounds including: social work, safeguarding, business support, policy and health. Jon was appointed to support the charity in updating its digital presence and raise the profile of the fantastic work it carries out to keep people safe in the Blackburn and Darwen District.

The charity was established in 1988 when a group of local women identified a lack of provision for support services for victims of domestic abuse. The Wish Centre was opened to provide direct access and a helpline to women in the borough. The charity is dedicated to  supporting people who have suffered, or who are at risk of suffering domestic abuse. It does this through the provision of support, advice and accommodation. It also offers runs a Refuge which acts as a safe, emergency accommodation unit to give those suffering from abuse a secure escape if they are fleeing domestic abuse.

Domestic abuse is extremely complicated - The Wish Centre is an inspiring advocate for change Working with those suffering from various types of abuse including physical, verbal, psychological, emotional, sexual or financial, the charity is an inspiring advocate for change.

As an extension of Jon’s trusteeship, Giant is working with the Centre to design and launch its Wish Centre Allies campaign and has pledged pro bono design and build resource to redevelop the charity’s website - which is due to launch in coming weeks! The project has also included a variety of production work and photography to help collate content for the new website.

“I am honoured to have been selected to join the Wish Centre’s Board of Trustees. Having worked with ethical organisations for more than a decade, I wanted to commit some of my personal time to a smaller charity that could benefit from a digital overhaul. I hope that the steps we are taking at The Wish Centre to update its brand will make a significant impact on its end users.”
