We’re committed to accessible, inclusive digital experiences for all. Read our accessibility promise and how we’re putting it into action.

Last updated: 3 June 2025

1. Our commitment to accessibility

At Giant Digital, we are dedicated to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities. We continuously strive to improve the user experience and adhere to evolving accessibility standards. Our goal is to provide content that is accessible, usable and inclusive for everyone.

2. Conformance status

  • Current standard: Our website (https://www.giantdigital.co.uk/) is designed with the aim of meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA/AAA criteria.
  • Future enhancements: As the accessibility landscape evolves, we are closely monitoring the upcoming WCAG 3.0 guidelines and will work diligently to incorporate these enhancements into our digital assets as soon as practicable.

Please note that while we aim for full conformance, some dynamic features or third-party content may not yet fully meet these standards. We are continuously working to address these issues.

3. Technical standards

  • Accessibility guidelines: We are in the process of developing in accordance with WCAG 2.2 (AA/AAA) and are preparing for adoption of WCAG 3.0 (Bronze, Silver, Gold) once released.
  • Assistive technologies: We are working towards supporting various assistive technologies, including screen readers (JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver), magnifiers (ZoomText) and keyboard-only navigation.

4. Known limitations

Despite our ongoing efforts, the following areas do not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.2 AA/AAA. We have referenced each failure against the relevant WCAG criterion (with links to the official WCAG 2.2 Quick Reference) and provided an estimated resolution date.

1.1.1 Non-text Content (alt text missing)

  • All images across the site (e.g. homepage carousel cards, “Our team” headshots, “Our work” filter icons, journal post imagery) lack appropriate alt text.
  • Reference: WCAG 2.2 1.1.1 Non-text Content (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/?showtechniques=112#non-text-content
  • Affected pages: All pages, including Homepage, Solutions & Technology, Our work, Our journal, Our team.

Estimated resolution: June 2025

2.1.1 Keyboard (lack of keyboard operability for interactive elements)

  • No “Skip to main content” link on the homepage, preventing screen-reader and keyboard users from bypassing navigation.
  • Dropdown menus in the navigation cannot be opened or traversed via keyboard.
  • Carousels (homepage hero, solutions, “Our work” tags, “Our journal” filters) are not fully operable by keyboard; focus indicators are unclear, and there is no mechanism to move between slides or tabs.
  • The “Want to skip the back-and-forth?” arrow button on the Contact Us section is unlabelled and not focusable by keyboard alone.
  • Contact Us form fields (novel display) are not fully labelled and cannot be tabbed through in a logical order.
  • Reference: WCAG 2.2 2.1.1 Keyboard (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/?showtechniques=31#keyboard

Estimated resolution: June 2025

2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (semantic structure and landmark issues)

  • Main navigation uses <ul> > <div> > <li> (invalid structure). Each <li> must be an immediate child of the <ul>.
  • The footer heading “Let’s stand tall, create change and be Giant, together” is currently coded as an <h4> on some pages, causing heading-order inconsistencies.
  • Reference: WCAG 2.2 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/?showtechniques=24#bypass-blocks
  • Affected pages: Homepage, footer across all pages.

Estimated resolution: June 2025

2.4.4 Link Purpose (in context)

  • The Giant logo on the homepage lacks an aria-label (e.g. “Return to Giant Digital homepage”).
  • Links labelled “Discover more” on carousel cards do not specify their destination.
  • The newsletter signup input/button requires an aria-label or aria-labelledby to clarify purpose (e.g. “Subscribe to Giant Digital newsletter”).
  • Reference: WCAG 2.2 2.4.4 Link Purpose (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/?showtechniques=24#link-purpose-in-context
  • Affected pages: Homepage, Solutions & Technology (“Discover more” links), footer (newsletter).

Estimated resolution: June 2025

2.4.7 Focus Visible (insufficient focus indicators)

  • Navigation items on the homepage appear almost black against the hero video when in focus; a visible underline is needed.
  • “Contact us” button has low contrast on focus.
  • Footer links (red and lilac) when focused or hovered are on the threshold of acceptable contrast and require either bold text or a clear underline.
  • Social links in the footer do not show any focus or hover effect.
  • Filters on “Our work” and “Our journal” pages lack visible focus outlines, making it difficult for keyboard users to know which tag is active.
  • Reference: WCAG 2.2 2.4.7 Focus Visible (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/?showtechniques=24#focus-visible
  • Affected pages: Homepage, Solutions & Technology, Our work, Our journal, footer.

Estimated resolution: June 2025

1.4.3 Contrast (minimum contrast ratios not met)

  • “Contact us” button text has insufficient contrast with its background.
  • Text-moss, coral and lavender text against a white background fails the 4.5:1 ratio for normal text.
  • Breadcrumb links on Solutions & Technology pages do not meet minimum contrast until hovered.
  • Navigation links on the Help for Heroes page fail contrast requirements; the header may need a semi-transparent background or drop-shadow for sufficient legibility.
  • Reference: WCAG 2.2 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/?showtechniques=14#contrast-minimum
  • Affected pages: Homepage, Solutions & Technology, Help for Heroes.

Estimated resolution: June 2025

4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (missing accessible names and IDs)

  • Consent checkbox in the footer appears without a visible label; it must be linked via for/id or aria-labelledby.
  • Cookie banner (on all pages) uses generic IDs and lacks a proper role="dialog" or role="alertdialog", making it difficult for assistive technologies to detect.
  • The “animated-h1” elements on some pages carry an unnecessary aria-label that simply duplicates the text, which may confuse screen-reader users.
  • Filters (“tags”) on “Our work” and “Our journal” require unique, discernible IDs to allow screen readers to announce each filter accurately.
  • Reference: WCAG 2.2 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/?showtechniques=41#name-role-value
  • Affected pages: Footer (consent, cookies), Solutions & Technology (“animated-h1”), Our work, Our journal.

Estimated resolution: June 2025

1.1.1 Non-text Content (video controls and transcripts)

Estimated resolution: June 2025

1.3.1 Info and Relationships (heading hierarchy)

Estimated resolution: June 2025

Disproportionate burden considerations (August 2025 and beyond)

  • Legacy PDFs or externally hosted documents may not meet all accessibility guidelines. Converting large archives of older content could impose a disproportionate burden; we will prioritise new and frequently accessed files first. All future documentation will conform to PDF/UA standards whenever possible.

5. Disproportionate burden

We recognise that in some cases, achieving full conformance may impose an unreasonable burden in terms of cost, time or technical limitations. For example, converting extensive archives of legacy PDF documents into fully accessible formats may be disproportionate given current resources. In such instances, we will provide alternative formats (e.g. plain-text summaries or audio recordings) upon request and continue to prioritise accessible creation of new content. We regularly review these considerations to ensure any burdens remain reasonable while still progressing towards full accessibility.

6. Feedback and contact information

We welcome your input in our accessibility journey. If you encounter any difficulty or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us by one of the following methods:

We aim to acknowledge and respond to all accessibility feedback within 5 business days

7. Requesting alternative formats

If you require content in an alternative format (such as large print, audio or an accessible PDF), please contact us (see section 6). We are committed to providing materials in formats that meet your needs and will endeavour to fulfil requests promptly.

8. Our process and future plans

  • Ongoing audits: We perform regular accessibility audits - both internally and with external experts - to identify and rectify remaining barriers. We use a combination of automated testing tools (e.g. Axe, WAVE) and manual user-testing with assistive technologies to validate compliance.
  • Training and development: Continuous training for our staff ensures accessibility remains a priority throughout our development lifecycle. All new hires undergo accessibility best-practice sessions twice a year.
  • Remediation roadmap: We maintain a detailed, public roadmap listing all known issues, their WCAG references and estimated completion dates. This roadmap is reviewed and updated monthly.
  • Future standards: We are dedicated to keeping pace with evolving guidelines, including WCAG 3.0 (Bronze, Silver, Gold) as they become available. Interim staff briefings will be held to assess and implement any changes necessary to meet these new standards.

9. Reporting and resolving accessibility issues

To report an accessibility problem, please provide a detailed description of the issue (including steps to reproduce it) to:

We strive to acknowledge all accessibility-related feedback within 5 business days and to resolve reported issues as promptly as possible, following the timeframes indicated in section 4.

10 Legal disclaimer

While we are committed to making our website accessible, some content provided by third parties may not fully conform to WCAG 2.2 or future WCAG 3.0 standards. We are working closely with these providers to improve accessibility, but this statement does not apply to content not controlled by Giant Digital.
